Tuesday Evening Trail Running/Hiking/Biking
We run, walk, hike or bike various trails in the Kalamazoo area. All are welcome and may proceed at their own pace. There will probably be some of each type of ways to do the trails. If you want to be added to the e-mail list or have a trail suggestion, contact chair@greatlakesadventureclub.com

Every third Tuesday after work we will meet and rollerblade for 30 to 45 minutes.
There are lots of trails in the Applegate housing development. More new trails are needed so keep your eyes open for newly paved roads, etc. Any questions email

Annual Softball Game and Potluck
Fri June 20 at 6:30PM
Our annual softball game will be held behind the Oshtemo Fire Station. The Full Circle Community and the Great Lakes Adventure Club will join for an eventful couple of hours. Bring a dish to pass, drinks, and extra lawn chairs.
No pressure, no strikes outs and a blind ump. How much more fun can you ask for? Rain date will be June 20.

Paddlefest 2008

Join Brent and Carolyn K for Paddlefest 2008 in South Bend, Indiana. Paddlefest is a one-day extravaganza for the adventure-seeker and the outdoors-lover. Events are geared for both the first-time paddler and the best athletes in the country.
This event is a special tribute to Michiana's valuable resource, the St. Joseph River. There are activities for all ages. Five different paddling (canoe or kayak) events! Registration is $20. Check out www.Paddlefest.org for more information and to register. |

Black River Paddle
Bangor/South Haven

Bangor/S. Haven Water Trial Association invites you to join a group to paddle the Black River. Paddle the Black River in Bangor, MI – Get on the Black River at Lions Park in Bangor, Michigan at 1:00PM.
This is a beautiful, scenic stretch of river with birds, wildflowers and wildlife. Take out at County Road 687 after paddling 5 miles or approximately 2 hours. Participants can provide their own equipment. Don’t forget the sunscreen, water, insect repellant and hats.
If participants need equipment, please contact Running Rivers Outfitters at (269) 673-3698. They can provide livery service as well. |
Bike Trip Centreville

Habitat for Humanity invites you to take part in the Bike to Build 2008. Funds raised from this ride are used to support Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to provide adequate housing in St Joe County.
Choose 10, 25, 40 or 72-mile routes. Rest stops with “themed” (Scottish, Chinese, Mexican, German) refreshments are available on all routes. Ride starts between 7-10AM and you must finish by 3PM.
Pre-registration is $20 per rider prior to the ride date, it’s $25 each on the day of the ride. All routes will ride through the 1887 Langley Covered Bridge on the St. Joe River and go through Amish Country.
Lunch will be provided at the end of the ride. T-shirts and water bottles available for purchase.

Overnight Stay on the
USS LST 393
Muskegon
Fri July 4 to Sun July 6
Join us on Saturday, July 4, 2008 for a day and evening of fun and stay the night on the USS LST 393, one of only two remaining WWII landing crafts from the 1,151 built. Last year our group was the first ever to sleep on the ship overnight and everyone had fun and wanted to return again this year! You’re invited to join us for the holiday on deck for a ringside seat to the evening fireworks in the bay!
Nearby you can enjoy:
- The paved Musketawa and Hart/Montague trails for biking and walking
- Paved trail from the LST 393 around Muskegon Bay and past the USS Silversides, a WWII submarine
- Many great restaurants and other tourist attractions
Cost: $20 per person. Room reservations will be taken in order of payments received. All others will be put on a list in order of contact and guaranteed upon receipt of payment. You can sign up and pay John at the Great Lakes Adventure Club meeting at the Oshtemo Library (7-8PM) on May 13 or June 10.
As of April 8, five rooms have been booked and more people have expressed an interest in attending. The weather was so nice last year that several people put their bed mattresses on the boat deck and slept under the stars!

Dave G is interested in finding the level of interest for this activity. It was done last year and was a lot of fun. Please call or e-mail Dave G., if you would be interested in this trip. There would be fuel, food and motel cost involved. |
Pine River Canoe/Kayak Trip

James D is leading this adventure. Plan to camp at Cool Water Campground in Baldwin, Michigan. Cost of camping is $12/person/night. Cost of paddling is $2/boat/day.

Bike Holland to Grand Haven

John D leading. Join us on a nice bike ride from Holland Tunnel Park to Grand Haven and back. The 21-mile ride each way ride is on a well-paved bike trail off to the side of the main road along Lake Michigan. The ride is mostly flat and you can bring your lunch or buy it there.
We meet at 9:00AM sharp to carpool.

Moonlight Float on the St. Joe River
Three Rivers

John D is leading this trip – Get your candles, glowsticks, and night lights and join us for our MOONLIGHT FLOAT trip.
We will drop boats before 9:00PM. Be sure to get there early so you will have time to drop your boat and depart downstream at 9:00PM. We should be launching about 9:30PM when the car shuttlers get back. The float trip takes about 3 hours.
Boaters put a candle in a mason jar and tape it to the end of your boat. This way the other boaters can avoid gliding into you.
This is a don’t miss event, so if you don’t have a boat ask others in the club, some have more than one, or ask me.

Jackson Bicycle Tour and Wienie Roast

Cloverleaf style ride with four different loops. Ride one or a combination of loops from 17 to 100 miles. Beautiful country roads with light traffic. Terrain is flat to rolling. Must start by 10AM and finish by 4PM.
Pre-ride food features bagels, orange juice, and coffee. Lunch features hot dogs, baked beans, chips, veggies, fruit, tortilla chips and salsa, beverages, and great cookies. Entertainment.
Pre-registration by July 2 is $15 per rider or $20 after July 2.

Hike the Kekekabic Trail

This is a rather rough trail from the Gunhirt trail side to the Ely side of the Boundary Waters, approx 45 miles of rough terrain. 5-6 days backpacking, I day travel each way. The cost is minimal, which is the cost to drive. Carolyn P is leading this trip and would like another experienced backpacker to help with the trip. Check newsletter for phone number. |
Vineyard Classic Bike Ride

John D invites you to ride through the lush Paw Paw orchards and vineyards at the peak of the harvest season. Ride 22, 39, or 60 miles.
Cost is $15 each or $20 after Aug 13th. T-shirts available. Free sports massage after the ride.
